ALUMINIUM
DOORS

Aluminium doors based on profile systems — thermally broken and non-insulated — for entrances, public areas, corridors and glass partitions. Used in hotels, business centres, retail, healthcare and education buildings, including fire-rated and smoke-tight versions. DPS selects the system for the project, issues shop drawings (KMD) and organises manufacturing, installation and as-built documentation.

01 · CONSTRUCTION

ALUMINIUM DOOR
CONSTRUCTION

PROFILE
Extruded aluminium alloy profile, powder coated or anodised. The frame and leaf depth is defined by the system and the thermal envelope requirements.
THERMAL BREAK
In thermally broken systems the inner and outer parts of the profile are joined by polyamide strips. Non-insulated systems are used inside the heated envelope and in unheated vestibules.
CORE
Insulated glass unit, single glazing or solid sandwich panel. Infill thickness is limited by the system rebate and set in the shop drawings (KMD).
SEALS
EPDM seal lines along the rebate and glazing. Fire-rated and smoke-tight versions add intumescent strips and smoke seals.
HARDWARE
Surface-mounted, barrel or concealed hinges, narrow-stile locks, closers, panic hardware. Selected by leaf weight and intensity of use.
THRESHOLD
Low threshold or threshold-free solution with a drop seal for people with reduced mobility. Threshold height is coordinated with accessibility and evacuation requirements.

02 · TYPES AND OPERATION

ALUMINIUM DOOR
TYPES

SINGLE-LEAF HINGED

Standard version for entrances, service rooms and partitions. Fully glazed, part-glazed or solid.

offices, corridors, service entrances, stairwells

DOUBLE-LEAF

Two leaves — equal, or with active and passive halves. A solution for wide openings and escape routes with heavy footfall.

entrances, lobbies, halls, emergency exits

AUTOMATIC SLIDING

Motorised leaves with motion and presence sensors. For emergency exits, break-out versions are used as designed.

shopping centres, hotels, clinics, airports, supermarkets

REVOLVING

Revolving doors with manual or automatic drive reduce heat loss and draughts at the entrance. They require an adjacent swing escape door.

business centres, hotels, banks

WITH TRANSOM AND SIDELIGHTS

A door within a curtain wall frame with a transom above and solid side panels. Closes the opening to full storey height.

entrances, atriums, shopfronts, lobbies

INTEGRATED IN PARTITIONS

Doors built into glass and aluminium office partitions, including fire-rated ones. The door and partition profiles are coordinated within one system.

open-plan offices, meeting rooms, corridors, hospital departments

DOUBLE-ACTING

Open both ways, with floor springs or double-action hinges. Convenient for constant trolley traffic.

hospitals, kitchens, retail back-of-house areas

Diagrams are schematic: plan view; for constructions with a transom — front elevation.

03 · FINISHES AND MATERIALS

PROFILE
FINISHES

Doors in black profiles with transoms

POWDER COATING

Any RAL colour, matt, gloss or textured finish. Thermally broken systems can have different colours outside and inside.

Anodised profile

ANODISING

Oxide film in silver, bronze, champagne and black. Suitable for façades with high wear-resistance requirements.

WOODGRAIN FINISH

Sublimation woodgrain texture applied over the powder coat. Used in hotel and residential complex interiors.

Solid and frosted infills

SOLID PANELS

Sandwich panels faced with painted aluminium, HPL or stainless steel. Used for utility and service doors.

Pull handle on a glass door

FACINGS AND PULL HANDLES

Stainless steel, brass or painted aluminium, with pull handle length as designed. They set the look of the entrance.

04 · GLAZING

GLAZING
AND INFILL

  • Toughened glass — safety glass for doors and low-level glazing that breaks into blunt fragments.
  • Laminated glass — multi-layer glass with an interlayer that retains shards; used where impact resistance and intrusion protection are required.
  • Insulated glass units — double and triple glazed, with low-E coatings, for thermally broken entrances.
  • Fire-resistant glass — laminated glass with fire-resistant interlayers, used only as part of a tested fire-rated construction.
  • Sandwich panels — solid or combined insulated infill for service and utility openings.

05 · PERFORMANCE

TECHNICAL
DATA

EI 30 — EI 60

FIRE RESISTANCE

Typical range for fire-rated aluminium systems. Higher ratings as designed where a proven system is available.

EIS / EIWS

SMOKE TIGHTNESS

Versions with the S index for stairwells, lift lobbies and smoke lobbies. Confirmed by tests.

UP TO 3000 MM

LEAF HEIGHT

Typical limit for swing leaves. Exact sizes depend on the system, infill weight and hardware.

UP TO 150–200 KG

LEAF WEIGHT

Defined by the hinges and profile. Heavy entrances use reinforced systems and barrel hinges.

FROM 1.0 W/m²·K

THERMAL PERFORMANCE

Guide value for the door U-value of thermally broken systems. Non-insulated systems are used only inside the heated envelope.

UP TO 1 MILLION CYCLES

DURABILITY

For high-traffic entrances, systems and hardware with a high cycle life are selected.

Values are indicative; for each project the performance is confirmed by certificates, test reports and data sheets for the specific system.

06 · HARDWARE

HARDWARE
AND AUTOMATION

  • Hinges — surface-mounted, barrel and concealed; number and type are calculated from leaf weight and width.
  • Locks — narrow-stile mortice, multipoint, electromechanical and self-locking.
  • Panic hardware — push bars and push-bar handles for escape routes, including those certified for fire-rated doors.
  • Door closers — overhead, concealed in the profile and floor springs; closing sequence selector for double-leaf fire-rated doors.
  • Access control — electric strikes, electromagnetic locks, readers, position sensors, integration with access control and fire alarm systems.
  • Operators — for sliding, swing and revolving doors, with safety sensors and emergency opening.

09 · FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

When is a thermally broken system needed and when is a non-insulated one enough?

A thermally broken system is needed in the building envelope: entrances, exits to the street and to unheated spaces. Non-insulated systems are used inside the heated volume — partitions, corridors, internal vestibules.

Can a glazed aluminium door be fire-rated?

Yes, using a dedicated fire-rated profile system and fire-resistant glass. The fire rating, usually EI 30 or EI 60, is confirmed by tests of the whole construction, not individual components.

Can an automatic sliding door be used on an emergency exit?

It is possible with a break-out version that meets the fire safety requirements of the design. More often an adjacent swing escape door is provided — the solution is agreed at the design stage.

What is the maximum possible leaf size?

For swing leaves the typical limits are up to 3 m high and about 1.2–1.4 m wide, but actual sizes depend on the system, infill weight and hinges. DPS checks sizes against the limits of the chosen system when issuing the shop drawings (KMD).

How are doors integrated with access control and fire alarm systems?

Electromechanical locks, position sensors and cable transfers in the profile are provided for at the design stage. On a fire alarm signal the doors release or close according to the sequence set in the design.

What documents are handed over after delivery?

Product data sheets, certificates of conformity, documents confirming the fire rating for fire-rated doors, and as-built installation documentation.
